City of Oakland Park Bus

Project Overview

Facing a decade of wear and tear, the City of Oakland Park required a full restoration for their 39-foot bus. We provided a comprehensive solution, including the removal of the old, damaged wrap and the design and installation of a vibrant new one. The primary goal was to rejuvenate the vehicle’s appearance and boost the city’s brand visibility within the community.

  • Client Name: City of Oakland Park
  • Industry: City/Municipality
  • Location: Oakland Park, FL
  • Project Type: Vehicle Wrap
  • Date Completed: September 2024

The Challenge

  • The City of Oakland Park approached us to restore their 2014 39-foot bus, which had seen significant wear over the years. Originally wrapped in 2014, the vehicle showed extensive damage—including areas where the vinyl had burned into the paint, sections that were cracked, and visible signs of rust.
  • Our first major challenge was removing the aged and baked-on vinyl. This required a combination of techniques, including chemical treatments, power sanding, and a great deal of manual effort. Once the vinyl was successfully removed, we addressed the oxidation on the vehicle’s surface to ensure proper adhesion for the new wrap.
  • Working closely with the City, we developed a refreshed design for the bus. During the preparation process, we also took updated measurements to guarantee that all design elements were properly aligned and positioned during installation.

Installation Challenges and Technical Considerations
One of the primary challenges during installation was addressing the corrugated surfaces on the bus, particularly in the areas between the windows. These sections required precision wrapping to ensure the graphics aligned seamlessly and maintained visual consistency across the vehicle. Achieving a smooth and professional finish on these uneven surfaces demanded careful attention to detail, along with advanced installation techniques.

To ensure long-term durability and proper adhesion—especially in recessed or high-stress areas—we selectively applied primer where needed. This step was critical in promoting strong bond strength between the vinyl and the bus surface, reducing the risk of lifting or failure over time.

The Solution

  • Design Approach: Collaborated closely with the City to update the vehicle wrap design, ensuring it met their branding goals and was accurately scaled and formatted to fit the bus dimensions with precision.
  • Materials Used: 180CV3, 8518, UV printing
  • Production Process: Printing, laminating, through cutting and kiss cutting
  • Installation Details: On-site work, special tools, permits, safety measures.

The Results

  • Visual Impact: Describe the finished product’s look and feel.
  • Functional Results: Durability, weather resistance, ease of maintenance.
  • Client Outcome: The updated wrap significantly enhanced brand awareness and increased the vehicle’s visibility throughout the community. The refreshed design also provided a vibrant, engaging look that resonated with the children and brought new energy to the bus’s appearance.
